If the spring season were to end today, the MIAA Division 5 softball bracket would run through Franklin County.

The MIAA released its second iteration of its spring power rankings on Tuesday, with local schools ranked Nos. 1, 2 and 4 in the Div. 5 softball field.

Turners Falls sits atop the rankings at No. 1, back-to-back defending champion Greenfield is ranked No. 3 while Franklin Tech is ranked No. 4. The Thunder’s victory over the Eagles last Thursday helped prop it up to the No. 1 spot, though the Green Wave handed Turners its first loss of the season on Saturday. Greenfield and Turners will square off again on Wednesday, a game that will may well decide the top seed when the season comes to a close.

The Pioneer baseball team has reached the Div. 5 semifinals the last two seasons and sits at No. 4 in the power rankings on Tuesday. Turners and Greenfield join the Panthers in the top 32 while Frontier is ranked in the top 32 in the Div. 4 field.

Here’s a look at where each local team is ranked. As a reminder, the top 32 ranked teams earn an automatic bid to the state tournament. Each team ranked outside the top 32 that has a record of .500 or above will also make the field. All records listed are what the MIAA used for the formula and does not include Tuesday’s results.
