PVIAC Indoor Track: Mahar’s Krasco, Mohawk Trail’s Mojallali & Krezmien nab victories in Meet No. 1

The opening PVIAC indoor track meet of the season took place on Sunday at Smith College in Northampton. 

Athol and Mahar got the day going by competing in the early race while Mohawk Trail and Pioneer ran in the late race. Greenfield and Frontier each had a bye in the opening meet of the season and will get their winters going next weekend. Here’s how each team fared: 

Athol

Competing in dual meets against Mahar and Hampshire, the Bears were unable to walk away with a win on Sunday. 

On the boys side, Athol fell to the Senators (66-28) and the Raiders (73-22), and on the girls side, the Bears lost to Hampshire (83-9) and Mahar (35-19). 

Anthony Lopez-Hippler earned a fifth place finish in the high jump (five feet, six inches) while taking 11th in the 55-meter dash (7.24 seconds) to pace Athol. Joe Grant placed eighth in the shot put (34-5.75) while Raydin Sousa came in 14th in the 55 (7.39) and Enyert Arias Cepeda took 20th in the 1,000 meters (3:56.38). 

Athol’s Karleigh Chase came in fifth in the girls shot put (26-5.5), Tiffany Cruz took 21st in the long jump (9-0) and Gabriella Theriot placed 19th in the shot put (17-10.75) while the Bear girls placed ninth in the 4x200 relay (2:31.54). 

Mahar

The Senators scored against Athol, Hampden Charter East and SICS on Sunday and went 6-0 on the day. The Mahar boys beat the Bears (35-19), the Wolves (47-6) and the Bulldogs (41-25) while the Senator girls came away victorious against Athol (66-28), Hampden Charter East (76-8) and SICS (69-17). 

Stellina Moore had a big day for the Sens, placing 13th in the 300 (51.17), tying for third in the high jump (4-4), coming in third in the 55 hurdles (10.31) and placing sixth in the long jump (13-7.5).

Ava Dejackame took eighth in the 300 (49.06) and 14th in the long jump (12-6) while Madilyn Moore finished in ninth in the shot put (23-0.75). 

On the boys side Mitchell Krasco walked away with a first place finish in the 55 hurdles (8.29), a third place finish in the long jump (18-7.5) and fourth in the high jump (5-10). 

Mathieu Soucy took third in the 55 (6.9) and fifth in the 300 (38.14), David Phelps placed seventh in the 55 hurdles (10.23), Turin Gurganus came in 15th in the 600 (1:47.74), Jeff LaPlante placed eighth in the 1,000 (3:11.15) and 11th in the mile (5:33.62), Josiah Cardona took 15th in the 1,000 (3:29.04) and 12th in the 2 mile (12:34.63) and Aiden Drake finished in 14th in the 2 mile (13:47.5). 

The Mahar boys came in 10th in the 4x200 (1:48.43). 

Mohawk Trail

The Warrior boys opened the season with a trio of wins while the Mohawk Trail girls went 1-2 on Sunday. The Warrior boys earned wins over Hampden Charter West (71-0), Pope Francis (57-29) and Southwick (59-22) while the Mohawk Trail girls beat Hampden Charter West (67-0) but fell to Pope Francis (49-32) and Southwick (40-33). 

Chay Mojallali helped power the Warriors to those three wins, taking first in the high jump (6-0), second in the 55 hurdles (8.97) and third in the shot put (34-3.75). 

Tanner Biagini took fifth in the 55 (7.17), fifth in the 300 (41.42) and 10th in the long jump (17-2.5). Peter Healy placed ninth in the 600 (1:42.33) and third in the 2 mile (11:01.92), Rex Kuoppala came in 10th in the 1,000 (3:20) and seventh in the mile (5:22.7), Carson Richardson took 12th in the 1,000 (3:32.48) and Leo Boltz finished in 13th in the 1,000 (3:39.05) and 10th in the mile (6:03.69). The Mohawk Trail boys placed ninth in the 4x200 (1:55.98). 

On the girls side Virginia Krezmien earned a first place finish in the 1,000 (3:31.58) while rounding out her day with a second place finish in the mile (6:01.44) and an eighth place finish in the high jump (4-4). 

Morgan Raffa came in 13th in the 300 (52.58) and Ella Thompson placed 13th in the 600 (2:26.12), while in the shot put, Avery Johnson took seventh (24-5.75), Sophia Goodnow placed ninth (24-2.5) and Cammie Thompson finished in 10th (23-5.75). The Warriors came in ninth in the 4x200 (2:13.64). 

Pioneer

The Panther girls picked up a 59-1 win over Baystate Academy but fell to Pope Francis (47-31) and South Hadley (71-20) while the Pioneer boys also defeated Baystate (38-21) but lost to Pope Francis (39-21) and South Hadley (59-13). 

In the girls meet Louise Flagollet earned a second in the high jump (5-0), fifth in the 300 (48.89), sixth in the 55 hurdles (11.05) and 13th in the 55 (8.2), Daniela Teaca came in 14th in the 300 (52.78), Lucianne Burnamp placed 14th in the 600 (2:29.81), Sahana Heilman finished in 12th in the mile (6:48.09) and ninth in the long jump (13-2.25) and Emmanuel Flagollet took 14th in the high jump (4-0). Pioneer came in seventh in the 4x200 (2:04.64). 

In the boys race Griffin deRuiter placed 11th in the 300 (42.41), Carter Berthiaume came in 13th in the 600 (1:48.18) and 14th in the long jump (16-4) while the Panther 4x200 team took eighth (1:55.28).
